In this gumpasting project I wanted to combine elegant calla lilies with romantic hydrangea florets. I really like that these flowers are not only dissimilar in their floral shapes, but also in their coloring. The cream -white coloring of the lily really makes the hydrangea’s bluish-purple coloring “pop”! As you can see I tried two different treatments for the base of the cake. I first used a piece of narrow blue ribbon and then added a single row of hydrangeas. Originally I planned on covering the whole cake with hydrangeas, but after adding the first row of hydrangeas I realized that the appearance of the white fondant added to the simple elegance of this cake.
